There was rhythm, flair, and some seriously impressive moves, but what truly stole the show was the look on the dancers’ faces: pure, unfiltered joy. You could just feel how much it meant to them to be up there on stage, and how proud their families and carers were watching from the audience. It was a special moment of celebration and connection that even made a few eyes a little teary.
That’s the magic of BAM Arts. Based in Frankston, BAM Arts is a not-for-profit organisation that enriches the lives of people with disabilities through performing and creative arts. In dance, drama, film and music, BAM gives adults with disability the chance to express themselves, connect with others and shine, whether that be on stage, on screen, or in daily life.
BAM students work hard, and they absolutely love what they do. Whether in a live theatre show, a music video or a flash mob in the local shopping centre, the passion is real – and it’s contagious. Behind the scenes there’s a community of staff, families, volunteers and supporters helping bring the magic to life and cheering every step of the way.
One of those supporters is BAM’s beloved patron, Delta Goodrem. The relationship began in 2020 when Delta discovered BAM’s Driveway Dance Challenge during Covid lockdowns. Inspired by their creativity and spirit, she invited the group to create a video for her song Keep Climbing. That collaboration turned into something really special. In 2022, BAM students were featured in Christmas with Delta on Channel 9, and the connection has continued to grow. Delta’s support has meant the world to the BAM community, with her belief in the students’ talent helping spread the word about the incredible impact that music, dance and coming together can have for everyone.
Now BAM is preparing for a special milestone: its first Enchanted Ball on Saturday, October 4, at Frankston Arts Centre. It’s bound to be an unforgettable night of music, dancing, celebration and magic, professionally catered and full of sparkle. The ball will give BAM students the chance to dress up, let loose on the dance floor and create memories that will last a lifetime.
But they need a bit of help to make it happen, and are seeking donations to subsidise ticket prices so that every student has the chance to attend. Every dollar raised goes straight to making this experience accessible for all. And as a registered charity with DGR status, all donations over $2 are fully tax-deductible.
