This month marks an exciting milestone for Balnarring Beach author JoJo Leslie with the release of her debut picture book, Fish Don’t Hop.
A lifelong creative, JoJo’s journey began with childhood doodles and storytelling, growing into a passion for art, music and teaching primary school-age children. Today, she brings those worlds together through picture books that spark imagination and connection.
“I create silly, heartfelt, soul-sparking stories to get kids giggling, thinking and feeling, helping them lighten life’s load one laugh at a time,” she said.
JoJo’s debut comes at a deeply personal time after the loss of her younger sister. It inspired a powerful shift in perspective and a promise to stop living life like there’s always more time. That promise now lives in her work, shaping stories that encourage children to embrace who they are.
Fish Don’t Hop is already receiving strong support from leading children’s book publisher and distributer Scholastic, and JoJo will celebrate its launch with a storytime and activities for children at Farrells Bookshop in Mornington on Thursday, July 9, at 10.30am. Families, young readers and aspiring artists are invited to come along.
