The Bays Hospital has announced a new partnership with Gidget Foundation Australia, bringing expanded perinatal mental health support services to expectant, new and potential parents across the Mornington Peninsula.
The partnership will improve access to specialised, evidence-based care for families from conception through to a baby’s first year, supporting those experiencing or at risk of perinatal depression and anxiety (PNDA), which affects one in five mothers and one and 10 fathers.
Through this collaboration, community members will be able to access a range of services delivered by Gidget Foundation Australia at The Bays Hospital, including free individual and group psychological therapy services and digital resources. Key services include:
• Gidget House – providing in-person psychological therapy services throughout the perinatal period, including support for parents experiencing depression, anxiety, birth trauma, pregnancy loss or assisted reproduction challenges
• Start Talking – telehealth psychological therapy support delivered via a video call service, allowing parents to access care from the comfort of their own home
• Gidget Village Group Sessions – guided by a perinatal mental health clinician, these group programs provide a safe space to work through common issues, encourage others and share support
• Gidget Virtual Village – private, moderated online peer support groups to connect expectant, new and potential parents in a safe, judgment-free space.
The Bays Hospital CEO Jade Phelan said the partnership reflected a strong commitment to holistic, community-based care. “We know the perinatal period can be both joyful and challenging,” Jade said. “By partnering with Gidget Foundation Australia, we are ensuring that local families have access to the specialised mental health support they need when they need it.
“This partnership will help reduce barriers to care and ensure more parents can access support throughout the perinatal period.”
