Mornington Peninsula Shire is proud to present the sixth year of the Mayor’s Short Story Writing Awards.

The awards aim to encourage and support local emerging writers of all abilities while also celebrating our diverse creative talent. Only Mornington Peninsula residents are eligible to enter the awards, which open on March 30 and close on June 30.
The award categories and prizes are:
8-12 years: 500 word limit/short creative fiction only; $500 prize funded by the Shire, and bookshop vouchers
13-17 years: 1000 word limit/short creative fiction only; $800 prize funded by the Shire, and bookshop vouchers
Adults (18+): 2000 word limit/short creative fiction only; $2000 prize, bookshop voucher, and a two-week Police Point artist residency funded by the Shire.

The shire is proudly partnering with Westernport Writes Literary Festival again for its shortlist committee for adult entries.
The wonderful sponsors of this year’s awards are the Peninsula’s brilliant bookshops, including Farrells Bookshop, Petersen’s Bookstore, Rosebud Book Barn, and Antipodes Bookshop & Gallery.
Shortlisted stories will be revealed in July and winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in September. Get writing!
