Jenette Holcombe and Kellie Pitt have been part of the Mornington Football Netball Club for as long as they can remember. Known around the club as the Snag Hags, the pair have turned their long-running sausage sizzle into nothing short of a local institution.
The barbecue may be their natural habitat, but their contribution to the Bulldogs stretches well beyond the hotplate. On game day, they are on the tongs from the first bounce until the final siren; at other times they are involved in everything: the club’s $10,000 charity draw, ladies’ day, the midyear ball, and the handmade player badges that have become collectables among Mornington families.
So while they’re now being celebrated as two of Australia’s local barbecue legends through Bunnings’ nationwide Legend of the Tongs search, Jenette and Kellie were local legends long before anyone put a prize pack on it.
For the Snag Hags, it was never just about footy or a perfectly cooked snag. It was about the people who gather around the club, the friendships that stick, and the memories made along the way. It has even become a family affair, with their daughters and friends helping on the barbecue and earning their own affectionate title: The Hagettes.
“It’s about the community,” Kellie says. “Making sure everyone enjoys their time and has great memories.” Jenette says simply: “It’s in our blood.”
That devotion is what has put Jenette and Kellie in the spotlight as part of Bunnings’ 2026 Legend of the Tongs campaign, which recognises the volunteers who keep footy clubs humming along, one snag at a time.
As weekly winners, they score a barbecue prize pack valued at more than $585 for their club. They are also in the running to snag a trip for two to the 2026 AFL Grand Final and be crowned the overall Legend of the Golden Tongs, winning $25,000 in Bunnings products and materials for the Bulldogs.
Bunnings Mornington site manager Sue Helen Bone said Jenette and Kellie were exactly the kind of people the campaign set out to celebrate. “Jenette and Kellie have spent years serving traditional match-day favourites while creating a welcoming environment for players, families and supporters,” she said. “Their energy and commitment are a huge part of what makes their club special.”
