The Mornington Peninsula’s hair, beauty and wellness sector continues to evolve. With 7.9 million visitors to the region annually*, many are drawn to our renowned day spas, wellness retreats and beauty experiences. For those looking to build a successful career in the industry, staying connected to emerging trends and industry leaders is just as important as developing technical skills.
To help students stay ahead, Chisholm Institute recently brought together industry professionals, employers, suppliers and educators for its first Hair, Beauty and Wellness Industry Day at Frankston’s Mysa Salon and Spa.
The event welcomed students from across Chisholm’s campuses, providing access to some of the sector’s leading voices. Presentations explored career pathways to business development, sustainability and industry advocacy. Students also connected with major partners, including leading product brands and representatives from the Australian Hairdressing Council and the Aesthetic Beauty Industry Council.
Chisholm’s salon and spa manager Jen Weeks said the event was designed to showcase the breadth of opportunities available within the sector.
“As a large and well-established TAFE, we have strong industry connections throughout the hair, beauty and wellness industries,” Jen said. “We wanted to create an opportunity for students to connect directly with employers, industry bodies and successful professionals already thriving in the careers they are stepping into.”
Live demonstrations throughout the day showcased in-demand services including hair styling, fashion-forward colour application, barbering, facials, skin needling, brow lamination and make-up artistry. Students also participated in competitions, creating a highly engaging experience.
“The impact on students was significant,” Jen said. “Many left feeling inspired and more connected to the industry.”
The event also provided valuable exposure for industry partners, helping them build connections with emerging talent while showcasing products and services.
