Bookneck Winter Parlour Series: The Lost Art of the Commonplace Book

Before Pinterest boards, note-taking apps and carefully curated social feeds, there were commonplace books: personal collections of quotations, observations, recipes, poems, sketches and ideas gathered over a lifetime. A kind of Pinterest for the soul.

Join Bookneck, the Mornington Peninsula’s tiny travelling bookshop, for the opening event in our Winter Parlour Series; an intimate program of literary gatherings inspired by the salons, parlours and correspondence societies of earlier eras.

Together we’ll explore the history of the commonplace book and the fascinating ways writers, artists and thinkers have used them throughout the centuries before creating and beginning our own. Guests will leave with a handcrafted journal and the beginnings of a personal repository for ideas, inspirations and curiosities.

All materials provided.
