The Peninsula Writers’ Club is an engaging, supportive place for Mornington Peninsula writers to network, share ideas and learn insights from guest speakers. They plan to meet monthly in Sorrento at Cakes and Ale.
The Peninsula Writers’ Club is for writers living, working and writing on the Mornington Peninsula. The group is designed for sharing resources, discussing writing challenges and opportunities. As founder Andrea Rowe explains “We welcome interest from guest speakers / presenters in writing and publishing. Many of those attending have a solid background in freelance writing, while others have long-held dreams to take writing from their journals and turn them into published works.”
“Some of the speakers we are inviting to present in 2016 have already enjoyed publishing success.”
The gathering is a casual pay-your-own way wining and dining affair with plenty of opportunity to mingle and swap notes, with just one speaker being given a 20 minute window to tell their story or share their knowledge.
The Writer’s Club meets monthly for drinks and dinner at Cakes and Ale In Sorrento. 2016 dates will be announced on their facebook page (www.facebook.com/PeninsulaWritersClub) soon.
Writers are invited to put down their pens, turn off the laptop and mingle. Andrea continues, “It’s a chance for us all to ignore the freelance commitments and copy deadlines and enjoy a drink and dinner. Spread the word round to the non-facebookey writers in our crowd. Dinner and drinks at own cost.”
A recent event was the Un-edited Christmas Party during December at Cakes and Ale in Sorrento.
Writers were asked to bring their fav book / writer / quote with a Christmas reference.
“After that we will set a plan for Feb 2016 onwards meetings and will have a monthly guest speaker. All very informal in its infancy but it’s going to be a lovely evolution and celebration of talented and creativefolk.” said Andrea Rowe.
“Fellow freelancer Nikki Fisher and I are excited about the opportunity to network with others writers closer to home and celebrate and encourage the talented pen-pushers on the Peninsula. As for me I’ve got a new years project to publish a kids coastal picture book project with artist Justine McNamara so this will somehow hold me accountable to get that project up and going and on to bookshelves as well.”
The Peninsula Writers Club is the brainchild of Andrea Rowe of Coastal Connection who was recently named as a National Finalist in the Flying Solo Small Business Awards (Work Stylist category).
