When you want to be in the know about wine events on the Mornington Peninsula, you need to watch this space – Mornington Peninsula Vignerons Association (mpva.com.au). The MPVA is the official industry association representing Peninsula wineries and here’s what they have planned in 2017:
Peninsula Piers and Pinots – March 12
Held on the Labor Day long weekend at Flinders Foreshore, 12noon – 3pm. Taste and buy a range of pinots and purchase local food from George Bass Cafe, Calamari Brothers, Handmade Ice Pops and Red Hill Cheese, plus drinks from Red Hill Roast. There will be music by Rob Papp and a festive vibe. Watch the annual Piers & Pinots Yacht Race.
Tickets $35 include a complimentary Riedel tasting glass, tasting notes and wine tastings. Limited tickets at the event from 12 noon, online bookings close midday March 9.
Mornington Peninsula Winery Walk – May 6
Walk from Red Hill to Merricks with local vignerons and friends to celebrate the end of harvest and experience current vintage wines. Taste a variety of wines along the way complemented by a fine selection of food. A meandering historical rail track provides the perfect way.
Each ticket from the 2017 event will contribute to the MPVA’s fundraising cause for 2017 – the Fred Hollow Foundation. Bookings essential, tickets $100 per person, two walk times – 9am and 10am.
Winter Wine Weekend – June 10 – 12
The Winter Wine Weekend is held during the Queens Birthday long weekend in June. It is made up of two parts – the Winter Wine Fest (Saturday only, ticketedonline and at the Red Hill Showground) and cellar door activities and events (all weekend at participating cellar doors).
Australian Pinot Noir Challenge – August 14 – 15
The MPVA has confirmed 2017 will see the inaugural Australian Pinot Noir Challenge (APNC), to be held on the Mornington Peninsula with wines from across Australia and Philip Rich as Chairman. More to come at mpva.com.au
