Manyung Gallery Group Presents The Beauty of The Mornington Peninsula
March 20 @ 11:00 am - April 6 @ 4:00 pmFree
Opening Weekend Saturday March 20th & Sunday March 21st from 11am – 4pm
Manyung Gallery Art & Design space showcases local artist, Stewart Westle and his depiction of the beauty of the Mornington Peninsula. Celebrating Stewart’s deep connection to the land, Walk with Me carries you across the ancient landscape of the Mornington Peninsula where sky meets the sea, sea meets land and the mind journeys beyond through the colour and space of belonging.
“There are three distinct feelings in this body of work. The wildness of the back beaches between Flinders and Cape Schanck. The shape, texture and colour of the hinterland. The space, silence and calm of Western Port”, said Stewart.
“I use my art to enhance my own sense of belonging. My paintings speak of the precious moments we take out to connect with nature. I’ve always felt that I belong here on the Mornington Peninsula, but this body of work which I painted last year, has intensified that feeling. I explored my own back yard more intensely because of restrictions due to COVID and the result has been very satisfying. This is where I’m meant to be.”
Manyung Gallery Groups’ new art space Manyung Gallery Art & Design, located in Mornington, creates the ideal environment to breathe in the beauty of the Mornington Peninsula through Stewart Westle’s exceptional work. Journey through an expansive world where nature takes centre stage and the essence of connection through landscape is magnified. Dip your toes in the salt water. Raise your eyes to the tree tops. Find your own horizon in the distance.
Intimate yet spacious, Manyung’s Art & Design space takes you to the secret places Stewart has explored across this magnificent region. Come on a series of walks across the Peninsula with an extraordinary oil painter. From Flinders West Head, Flinders to Shoreham, Shoreham, between Point Leo and Merricks, between Merricks and Balnarring, Somers and Sandy Point, be part of a simply breathtaking world where times stands still.
“Stewart’s work represents the Peninsula at its best. The pieces stand alone, yet when placed together, they exemplify the vast beauty of the Mornington Peninsula and how lucky we are to live in such a place”, said Manyung Gallery Group co-owner Sharyn Wemyss-Smith.
Give beauty its space this March with Stewart Westle’s Walk with me at Manyung Gallery Art & Design and explore the Mornington Peninsula through the eyes of a local who loves where he lives.
