Peninsula residents and their pooches are ‘hooked’ on getting out and about for walks during lockdown. But some of the outings have been far from paw-fect.
Resident Phil has urged dog owners to be wary of fish hooks left on the beach after his furry friend suffered an injury after eating bait left on a hook.
“Watch out for fish hooks on the beach … stuck in the back of her tongue,” Phil wrote online. “Thanks to Peninsula Vet Care for the short-notice surgery to remove it.”
Phil added that his pooch, Tilly, had “recovered nicely”. “Just one of those unfortunate things that happen. A lot of rocks around here mean fishing lines get snagged and lost. This one washed up with the bait still on.”
Other residents posted that fish hooks and lines were being constantly left at the beach, posing a threat to all forms of wildlife.
