The Hinterland Scarecrow Festival and Trail is returning to the peninsula hills for the September school holidays – September 16 to October 3.

Everyone can join in the fun by building a scarecrow to add to the touring trail and win some great prizes, whether you live in the hinterland or not. There is a $300 first prize for the both the ‘Best Aussie Icon Scarecrow’ and ‘Best Traditional Scarecrow’ and a special ‘Artist’s Permanent Sculpture Competition’ with $1500 first prize, plus a host of other competitions and prizes to be won

The scarecrows have evolved into a unique community art form and pop up in front gardens, shop fronts, mazes and vineyards dotted around the Mornington Peninsula hills.  They come in all shapes, sizes and colours and can be traditionally built or made from hay bales, farmyard relics or be an art installation made from paper mache’.

The ‘Aussie icon’ theme is broad, and the appearance and personality of your scarecrow creation is only limited by your imagination. Register your entry online at www.scarecrowfestival.org.au

The website has plenty of scarecrow ideas and tells you a bit more about what is happening, the great prizes on offer and how to get involved in the trail that has become a unique community art form. The organisers will find a hinterland property to adopt your scarecrow if you don’t live in the hinterland region of Red Hill, Red Hill South, Main Ridge, Arthurs Seat, Balnarring, Merricks or Merricks North.
