Police have reminded the public that Mornington’s CBD is a designated no-alcohol area unless you’re in a licensed venue. The reminder comes after the closure of Main St to traffic between Barkly St and The Esplanade to enable hospitality venues to expand outdoors in line with COVID-safe practices.
“While this (closure) is fantastic for the local community and Main St traders, it is a timely reminder for all (who) are visiting the area that unless you are within the confines of a licensed venue, the Mornington CBD is a designated no-alcohol area,” police posted online.
People are prohibited from drinking alcohol or carrying open containers of alcohol in no-alcohol areas. “If you are found to be committing one of these offences, police and local laws officers have the ability to issue on-the-spot fines and ban you from the designated area for 72 hours.
“Police will be out in force over the coming holiday period to ensure that everyone is having a fun and safe time in our new CBD.”
