For more than 35 years, Mount Martha resident Donna McEvoy has thrived on organising special events – and as a mother of five there have been many.
In 2014, when searching for a wedding venue for their son, Donna and her husband stumbled across a For Sale sign at the front of Tanglewood Estate, a Merricks North winery they had long admired and pictured as a premier wedding venue. So they seized the opportunity and bought it.
With old-growth native bush, reclaimed-material buildings and stunning bay views, the estate already had plenty of natural charm, and over the next two years the pair
added to that with new buildings, renovations, and unique touches like the 110-year-old wooden chapel they transported from country Victoria to create a breathtaking ceremony space.
The first wedding at Tanglewood was for their eldest son, and since then more than 400 couples have said “I do” at this remarkable venue. With her all-female team, Donna ensures weddings run seamlessly, allowing couples to celebrate their whole day without leaving the estate.
Passionate about supporting people who help others, Donna has also opened the venue pro bono to special needs groups and mental health and healing workshops. She really is the heart of Tanglewood.
