Still buzzing from his win, Matt Taylor of G.E.M Taylor Constructions said his team was “incredibly proud of this award, especially after delivering one of our most significant builds to date”.

The Peninsula-based family business has taken out the HIA Eastern Victoria Home of the Year award for a striking and technically complex residence in Flinders.
The house is a feat of craftsmanship and engineering. Spread across eight bedrooms, seven bathrooms and multiple living zones, and including a wine cellar, bar, pool and large outdoor areas, the scale is impressive, yet every detail has been finished with the precision Matt’s team is known for. The build demanded advanced construction techniques, including a dramatic cantilevered upper level and a curved staircase formed entirely on site.
“This home is remarkable,” HIA Victoria executive director Keith Ryan said at the recent 2025 HIA Eastern Victoria Regional Housing Awards. “The judges felt the builder delivered exceptional results on a large and highly complex project.”

Architecturally designed to sit quietly within its coastal setting, it pairs natural stone, timber and textured concrete with refined, modern finishes. A custom facade system, adaptive shading and energy-efficient climate control enhance both liveability and sustainability, while passive design principles and generous glazing maximise views and connection to landscape.
Founded 47 years ago by Geoff Taylor, the company remains a family enterprise, with Matt joining more than 20 years ago and Dilan Basaran rising through the ranks to become a director. As Matt said: “Quality over quantity has always been our mantra, and this award reinforces that.”
