Cr Claire Harvey and nursery volunteers Barb and Lyn get Frankston Indigenous Nursery ready for tomorrow’s open day.

If the birds and the bees appear to be giving your garden a bit of a wide berth, it could be because it’s lacking the indigenous plants they need for food and shelter. How timely, then, that Frankston Indigenous Nursery is having an open day tomorrow from 9am-1pm with plants sales and giveaways to get your garden buzzing again.

The Frankston City Council nursery will be bursting with bargains and festive fun. Ecologist Dr Luis Mata will talk about the importance of insects in our urban environment and how we can attract them to our gardens, and there will be interactive information displays from AWARE Wildlife, Living With Wildlife, Frankston’s Natural Reserve Friends groups, and Gardens For Wildlife volunteers.

The Lions Club of Frankston is putting on a free barbecue, and there will be a nursery tour, a propagation workshop, a pollinator count, and activities for the kids. Cr Claire Harvey said places may be limited for the tour and workshop to maintain safe COVID distancing, and she asked people to register their details here if they’re attending.

Frankston Indigenous Nursery is a community nursery specialising in producing quality indigenous plants from all around the municipality. It’s at 32R McMannis Way in Seaford, off McCulloch Ave.
