One of Australia’s most internationally acclaimed pianists, Piers Lane, is coming to the Frankston Arts Centre in May as part of a national tour titled Chopin by Candlelight. It presents an opportunity to hear from one of the world’s greats in the glow of candlelight. Piers Lane is the artistic director of both the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and the Sydney International Piano Competition and he has performed in the world’s great concert halls. Chopin by Candlelight will feature a variety of works, including Fantasie in F minor Op. 49, Etude in E major Op 10. No. 3 (Tristesse), Bacarolle Op. 60, and Polonaise in F sharp minor. “Chopin remains unsurpassed as a composer for the piano. He knew how to make the instrument sing at its lyrical best. The music speaks eloquently to people everywhere of the beauty, the heartbreak, the dance, the yearning, the rhythm, the soul, of life itself,” Lane explains. The recital is presented by Andrew McKinnon and the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre.
