And here’s a tip – if you happen to have an original Casablanca poster stashed away, you’re sitting on a goldmine, according to Greg Chilvers from Silver Screen at Tyabb Packing House Antiques.
“Casablanca, you can’t get it,” this walking encyclopaedia of vintage film and television collectibles/memorabilia explains. “I sold one about six years ago and I haven’t got another one since. Today it would be worth $4000 upwards.”
He also has an original ‘That’s Cricket’ Don Bradman 1931 movie poster that is so rare it commands a five-figure price tag, and it’s stored off site.
Silver Screen is located at Tyabb Packing House Antiques. Greg and his team specialise in original (old and modern) movie posters and movie memorabilia, lobby cards, comics, hard to find DVDs, Disney, Beatrix Potter, limited edition figurines, statues and more.
The place is a mind blowing treasure trove, and it’s right under our noses. Better still, it has the biggest collection of original, vintage and modern movie posters in the country and the collection is ever changing!
“I literally have hundreds of thousands of posters and what you see in here is a small portion of what I’ve got,” Greg says.
A tour of Silver Screen with Greg is an event in itself. From Hitchcock to Elvis Presley, James Bond, Disney, Mad Max, Star Wars, Dr Who, Jaws and more, he’s got it all. “What about Attack of the Killer Tomatoes?” Greg says, gesturing towards the 1978 horror/sci-fi film poster. “You couldn’t go past a poster like that!” What about Pulp Fiction? “I just sold the last Pulp Fiction,” Greg says. “They are as rare as rocking horse manure!”
If figurines are your forte, Silver Screen has top of the range, limited edition sideshow figurines, Chucky dolls (the Good Chucky, the Bad Chucky and, of course, Bride of Chucky), the Wolverine brown costume premium format statue, Suicide Squad, Kratos God of War limited edition and so much more! They also have life-size figures! (how about a 6ft Batman or Terminator for your movie room?)
And Greg and his team understand what drives the passion for movie memorabilia. “It doesn’t have to be a fabulous movie,” he explains. “It just has to leave an indelible mark on the brain, a connection…it’s the whole KA-BANG!”
Whether you are a collector, a movie fan, buying for your movie room or entertainment space, or simply looking for a special gift, this is the place. Allow plenty of time.
