Waycott’s world is one of complex simplicity, fine line and deliciously fluid forms. His solo exhibition concentrates on a contemporary take on the nude and experiments with the exploration of the (heavy French) paper’s limitlessness. “Traditionally the nude is contacted within the boundaries of the paper. I like to go right to the edges of the work using one shade of acrylic colour to achieve flow and an effortless form that just keeps going – have the viewer’s eye move from side to side and off the paper to somewhere else,” he says. He also paints with oils on linen.
Wendy Grace’s gorgeous organic abstract works drop you into space to explore a world heavy with hollowness, fullness and mystery. Thin washes of high pigment acrylic reveal the history of the paint in her nature-based inspired works where the water lingers with transcendental dreaming well after it has dried. Her Winter’s Song solo exhibition sees a calmness flowing from much of the work where the hidden secrets of a world churning lie. “I like viewers to experience the gaps in my work – a place where the eye can rest. Each person has their own response,” she says.
