Spanish/Australian fine art photographer and multi-media artist Alberto Sanchez sets the scene with his view finder and then rearranges what he sees through physical perversion. Sound interesting? That’s because it is.
This multi award winning and world-wide exhibited artist (think the States, Singapore, Milano, Hong Kong, Germany, Sweden and the list goes on) conceives photography as a creative art form that is not constricted to the digital medium. His work transcends mere representation. A Sanchez work of art breathes new and reimagined life into a scene through unique hand-colouring technique, scratching and mastery manipulation. Multi layering is what you’ll see. An injection of surreal reality is what you’ll feel when viewing his sensory work which is akin to a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel or short story. He explains:
“My work is about the interaction between cities and urban landscapes and how I can alter perception. I take my photo and then intervene. I scratch, paint and move what I have seen. It’s a physical process and I love to pervert those original images – the photographs – to deliver a different message.”
“I set the characters free to teem and detach themselves and indulge in limbo where they struggle to reclaim space in an increasingly overloaded sensory environment,” he continues.
But you won’t struggle to transcend the everyday with this vibrant and ferociously sophisticated limbo inducing work which can be viewed at Manyung Gallery Mount Eliza from Friday, November 4, onwards. Don’t miss it.
