A baby typically goes through about 6000 nappies before he or she is toilet trained. That’s a huge cost for families and a lot of nappies destined for landfill.
For economic and environmental reasons, cloth nappies are back on the radar for many parents. If you have been considering making the change to modern cloth nappies, Mornington Peninsula Shire Council is hosting two free online workshops to help get you started. Elana from Cloth Nappy Workshops Melbourne will cover washing tips, dispel myths, show the different styles of modern cloth nappies and answer your questions. The workshops are on Wednesday, April 21, from 7.30-9pm; and Saturday, April 24, from 10.30am-noon.
The council is also offering a one-off rebate for all parents and carers who buy cloth nappies. Simply take a picture of your receipt along with your proof of residency and complete the online rebate form. You’ll receive a cheque in the mail for half your purchase price to a maximum of $100. The rebate is also valid for reusable sanitary products such as period briefs and menstrual cups.
