The streets in Frankston South near the corner of Humphries Rd and the Nepean Highway curve and cross each other at unusual angles because of the steep creek valleys that encircle this area. This can make finding your way around confusing, so it’s no surprise that there are streets that are not well known.
Yamala Park Bowling Club is in such a street and is a hidden gem in this suburban island. It has nestled in Dunstan St for more than 50 years, yet even some locals have been unaware of its existence until recently. The green is set into the hill facing Port Philip Bay within a small park with some lovely old trees on its boundaries; Yamala Park Tennis Club is in the same park.
During the summer months, Yamala Park Bowling Club offers a range of community activities that are becoming increasingly popular with many local families who enjoy barefoot bowling, with a barbecue, band and a licensedbar. As well as hosting social and competition bowls, it is also an excellent venue for family celebrations and community events.
Next time you are in the area, look up the bowls club in Dunstan St. You will see what a gem it is.
