CFA volunteers hopped to the rescue of two-much loved pet rabbits during a fire in Dromana this week. The drama unfolded shortly after 5pm on Tuesday when firefighters were called to a garage fire at Monaco Pde that was rapidly spreading to the unit alongside.
“The resident advised us that all members of the family had evacuated,” Dromana CFA posted online. “However, they had two pet rabbits in the rear yard directly in the path of the smoke.” Volunteer Lachlan Setter and another brigade member entered the property and rescued the rabbits.
“Although the home was not saved, all lives were – including the pets,” the CFA said. “The fire was contained to one of four (units) on the block, with none of the others receiving any fire damage.”
The CFA said the incident highlighted the importance of smoke alarms, which were sounding when the crew arrived. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
