Mushiki owners Hayden and Amanda Thatcher, who specialise in making Japanese-style gyoza dumplings, expanded their range to include vegetarian and pork buns this year and are now hoping for similar success with new products thanks to their grant. “We applied for a grant last year,” Mr Thatcher said. “We were unsuccessful, but we received some really great feedback which we incorporated into this year’s application. We are both so happy with the outcome.”

Grant applications were considered by an independent panel of experts with backgrounds in accounting, marketing, innovation, strategy and proprietorship. More than 50 grants have been awarded since the program’s inception in 2012 as the Small Business Grants Program, contributing more than $200 million to the region’s economy. This year’s recipients were:

Den Da Dumplings Pty Ltd (trading as Mushiki Dumplings) – $15,000

Health and Well-Being Education – $12,000

Teavision – $10,000
Calm Accounts – $5000
Mint Garden Café – $5000
