Sustainability is about living within the means of our environment and reducing one’s use of the earth’s natural resources.
It’s about using what we need to live now, without jeopardising the potential for people in the future to meet their needs.
This is the premise behind the Balnarring Community Sustainability Fair being held at Emu Plains Racecourse on Saturday October 10.
The event aims to inform, educate and inspire people to work towards a more sustainable future.
The fair will run from 9am-2pm and will showcase locally made and grown foods, organic wines, plants, handmade jewellery and crafts, and eco-friendly products such as water tanks and solar panels.
There will be local bands performing throughout the day.
The event is a major fundraiser for Balnarring Primary School, an environmentally focused school with its own wetlands.
The students have spent time creating arts and crafts from recycled materials to sell at the event.
Profits from the fair will go towards sustainability programs and maintaining the Balbirooroo Community Wetlands.
The Balnarring Sustainability Fair has been held once before, back in 2012, attracting 3000 visitors and raising $15,500 for the school.
