Several wards at Frankston Hospital have been closed to admissions and contact tracing of patients, family members and staff is being carried out after an increase in COVID-19 cases. “We are currently working through a plan to ensure the safety and well-being of our staff and patients, including closing a number of wards to admissions and undertaking thorough contact tracing with patients, family members and staff to alert anyone who has potentially been exposed to the virus,” said Peninsula Health chief executive Felicity Topp.

“We are also working closely with the Department of Health and Human Services and infection control experts to ascertain the root cause and implement immediately any mitigation strategies,” Ms Topp said. “Peninsula Health follows DHHS guidelines with regards to infection prevention and control to ensure patients receive the best possible care and to help prevent the spread of the virus.”

Ms Topp said she was unable to provide further details because of patient confidentiality and to protect the privacy of staff, but she urged the community to “please bear with us while we do all we can to keep everyone safe and well at this difficult time”.

There are currently 89 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 in Frankston and 64 on the Mornington Peninsula.
