Always Was, Always Will Be – the theme for NAIDOC Week from November 8-15 – recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for more than 65,000 years.

Frankston City Council’s reconciliation officer, Grant Lea, said NAIDOC Week played an important part in acknowledging the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. “This is special to me as it recognises that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been here for a long time and we have made significant contributions to this country and we will continue to do so,” Mr Lea said.

The council will celebrate the rich and vibrant culture of the Bunurong people through a range of events, including Indigenous Infusion tomorrow at 2pm via Zoom. Noonuccal man, elder and culture worker Gene Blow has more than 20 years’ experience teaching and sharing Indigenous culture and history with adults and children alike. Book here for this free event.

The council is committed to working with the region’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and traditional owners and has developed a reconciliation action plan in partnership with the community.
