Dromana businesses will carry petitions calling for plans for a service station and convenience restaurant in Safety Beach to be scrapped.

Laneway Espresso owner/operator Jim Mavrogiannis, pictured centre, joined other business owners and their families this morning at the site of the proposed development to protest against the proposal.

“When I found out that there was a possibility of McDonald’s coming to the area, I let other businesses know and they were shocked,” Mr Mavrogiannis said. “This development will have a huge impact on us as a food business. Not only will it kill the smaller food outlets, it will increase traffic and pollution.”

The application, which is currently before Mornington Peninsula Shire, also includes an expansion of the existing BP service station.
