Boogie Woogie Bakery in Balnarring by Liz Rogers

Just to let you know, the Red Hill Bakery in conjunction with local muso Marty Nelson-Williams put on a grinding show with UK boogie woogie piano legend Ben Walters early on in March.

Ben Walters has jammed with the best of them – think Chuck Berry, Rolling Stones, Bobby Womack, Jools Holland and Jerry Lee Lewis to name a few. The bakery was buzzing with world class music played for 130 (seated) lucky punters.

“The acoustics in the gallery are great and I do love an intimate venue where you can get in close to the action. Ben could have played for six hours straight after local songsmith Paul Dillon’s sweet intro set. Ben’s 16-year-old son Tom played sax like a legend, and the Red Hill Baker Boys joined in for a wild closing set. It was so good. How lucky are we to have this in our town?” says Marty.

“Ben also said he thought it was THE best gig of his Aussie tour,” he continues.

Friday night at the bakery in Balnarring will be rockin’ the best of local talent and international performers alike and Marty hopes to make this kind of gig a bi-monthly mecca for top notch musos and the people who love to hear them play.
