Hello, my name is Bay Sequoia. I live in Mornington, I’m 5, and I’m a Nature Warrior. I like to take care of and protect nature in whatever way I can.
I like collecting rubbish off my local beaches. It’s like a treasure hunt! I take my bucket and tongs, and every little – even tiny – bit counts.
Sometimes people don’t get rid of their rubbish properly, or drop it, and it can blow out of rubbish bins too and into the environment.
The fish, dolphins and birds can die if we don’t keep our beaches, water and waterways clean. We need to protect them. Sometimes we find a lot of rubbish, especially after a storm. And sometimes I see albatrosses that have massive wings, or little eagles that are very rare. We don’t want them to eat the plastic too!
After we collect rubbish, we share a packed lunch together on the beach, and Mummy has her chai and we share water and stories. The other day I saved some garfish that were stranded in rockpools without much water after a big low tide. I gently released them back into the bay. It made me very happy to rescue them.
All animals are my favourite and need protecting, but some of my favourites that live in the water are weedy seadragons (a type of seahorse), stingrays, turtles, rainbow fish and jellyfish. I love squids too.
It’s up to us to look after and protect nature. I hope you can help be a Nature Warrior too.
