Another record crowd at the Australia Day Balnarring Picnic Races witnessed Adam Bodey ride his sixth cup winner. The horse trained by Ricky Maund fittingly named ONYA Keithy came from behind to snatch victory.
A bumper crowd was in attendance and cars filled the middle of the race track.
Former Australian of the Year Simon McKeon gave the Australia Day address and the Minister for Racing Martin Pakula presented the trophy.
Congratulations must also go to Peter Spyker (President) and Neil Heathcote (Secretary) for putting on what is now becoming one of Victoria’s “must attend” annual events. Not to mention the hard working volunteer committee.
The next two meetings are both in March. Labour Day Sunday March 13 & Easter Saturday March 26.
Bring the kids along and buy a $15 all day ride pass to keep them amused. $10 entry for adults and under18 years free.

If you haven’t experienced racing at Balnarring before, it is a must, and only one hour’s drive from Melbourne.
This is a huge day for the club as people celebrate birthdays, bucks and hens parties and corporate end of year parties.
You won’t miss any of the racing action, with oncourse bookmakers, Tote, punters’ club and plenty of room by the mounting yard to get a good view of the runners.
There will be a selection of tasty local food stalls and wineries and a well stocked public bar to choose from when enjoying a celebratory drink between races.
It’s a huge event for the local area and the crowds flock to this vibrant raceday.
