Ciaran’s journey began in Ireland, where he discovered the art of shaping stone by hand. Working with Irish fieldstone and quality quarried materials, he honed his skills building homes, fireplaces, walls and pillars, learning to blend structural integrity with aesthetic beauty. Years spent working with renowned Irish stonemasonry teams laid a solid foundation for his craft.
In 2010, Ciaran permanently returned to Australia – having lived here briefly as a child – and settled with his young family in Mornington. Today, through his business Degan Stonework and Paving, he brings a refined touch to architectural homes and landscapes across the Peninsula and beyond.
Specialising in everything from dry stack granite and Castlemaine slate paving to fireplace features and cladding, Ciaran combines old-world techniques with a modern eye.
Whether it’s a rustic entrance wall in Red Hill or precision sandstone cladding on a new build in Park Orchards, every project is treated with care, creativity and craftsmanship.
Ciaran works with a wide range of local and imported materials, including Hillview granite, Mt Angus sandstone and Portsea limestone, while closely collaborating with homeowners, architects and builders to bring each vision to life.
“There’s a timelessness to stone,” he says. “Every job is different. Every material brings its own character, and when it’s done right it’s there for generations.”
