Australian men are nearly 50 per cent more likely than women to have a stroke, yet they lag significantly in stroke awareness. To rectify this, the Stroke Foundation’s Bloke Beside You campaign is urging more Aussie men to learn F.A.S.T. – three signs that someone may be having a stroke, and a prompt to call 000 so that person has a better chance of survival and a reduced risk of permanent disability:
Face: Has it dropped?
Arms: Can they lift both?
Speech: Is it slurred?
Time: Is critical; call 000 immediately.
“By learning and sharing the F.A.S.T. message, you could save a dad, a brother or a mate,” the Stroke Foundation said. “We need everyone in Australia to share this life-saving message: think F.A.S.T. and tell the bloke beside you today.”
The Bloke Beside You campaign runs from June 9-15 as part of International Men’s Health Week.
