A burst of colour now greets visitors to Dromana, where a striking new mural unveiled by Mornington Peninsula Shire has transformed the Mornington Peninsula Visitor Information Centre into a vibrant landmark celebrating the places and stories that define our region.
The artwork marks the first commission from the BrightWalls Graffiti Mural Project, a pilot initiative turning graffiti hotspots across the Peninsula into vibrant public art created with and for the community.
Designed and painted by local artist Daniel van de Wiel with youth from the BrightWalls project, the mural’s concept took shape during creative workshops where participants aged 18 to 24 shared their ideas and stories before joining Daniel on site to help bring the artwork to life.
“Working alongside young people was absolutely core to this project,” Daniel said. “The conversations we had and the way we shaped the design together created a real sense of inclusion and made the BrightWalls project a vehicle for connection, community and celebrating our local area.”
