Since then, Balnarring has championed female jockeys; in fact, three of the six races at the Christmas meeting were won by women. So it’s fitting that trailblazing Debbie is returning for the club’s biggest meeting of the year, when crowds of 7000 people regularly bask in the beauty of this delightfully picturesque course.
The Frankston RSL Pipe Band will march up the straight, there will be a special Australia Day ceremony and guest speakers, as well as lots of fun for the kids, food, wine from Quealy Winemakers and Underground Winery, and on-course bookmakers and betting facilities – not to mention the Punters’ Club and raffles worth $500 cash. Become a member and get access to the members’ grandstand, carpark and toilets – and there’s more than $1000 worth of giveaways throughout the day in the members’ draw.
The club’s next meeting is on Sunday, January 14, with an exhibition of E-Type Jags, Chris Humfrey’s animal shows and 500 showbags to give away. A fantastic bluegrass band will entertain the crowd from noon, and big fields are expected for a great day’s racing.
