Oh Rio, what a city  By Eleanor Gibson

South America was on my list of places to see but, let’s be honest, it’s a long list!  So when an opportunity arose for me to steer towards this grand continent, how could I resist?

In August, I flew to the vibrant city of Buenos Aires for an amazing four days. From the tempting steak restaurants that line the river to the colourful La Boca and its tango-filled streets, there are so many things to do and see - it is a city that doesn’t sleep.

From here, it was off to Iguassu Falls, the largest waterfall system in the world. With most of the falls on the Argentinian side, my tip is to head to the Brazilian side for the best viewing.  If you have a sense of adventure, then a boat ride under the falls is an absolute must.

Rio de Janeiro … oh, what a city! From the volleyball on the beaches at Copacabana to the music permeating from the favelas, you get a sense that this city is alive. It's impossible to miss Christ the Redeemer, towering overhead from almost every angle. But if you want to get a closer look, be sure to rise early, beat the crowds and take the tram to admire the enormity of this wonder of the world.

South America is still on my list - but for a return visit now!
