Cassie Louise

Tell us a bit about you and what you do:

My name is Cassie and I create jewellery and baby apparel for my labels ‘Cassie Louise’ being my first and middle names and ‘BAby Cassie Louise’ (baby apparel by Cassie Louise) – www.cassielouise.com.au I import gemstone beads, unique charms and independent designer fabrics from around the world and create all my designs from scratch in my home studio in Mount Eliza.

I studied pattern making and design technology in high school but have had no formal training since.  My first business venture was when I was around 8 years old selling handmade friendship bracelets to friends at primary school and progressed to designing and sewing custom hoodies for friends at high school, eventually selling my creations on Chapel st and in boutiques around Australia and the world. I also have a ‘real job’ working full time, 2 weeks on two weeks off, in operations at a helicopter airport.

Describe your style:

My style is minimalist casual with a of bohemian edge, a little rock ‘n’ roll at times and hints of florals and leopard.  You will usually see me in leggings and an oversized white tee shirt and thongs or sneakers and I use accessories to add a pop of colour and personality.  I have a huge collection of scarfs from around the world and jewellery from both my previous and current collections.

As much as it doesn’t usually reflect in what I wear I have a massive love for anything and everything bold and neon which definitely shows in my baby apparel collection and random items around my home!

Do you think Mornington Peninsula style/fashion has a certain look or feel?

I think the Mornington Peninsula has a beachy/casual style reflecting the amazing location and chilled vibe of where we live.

What are a couple of your favourite blogs or websites and why?

At the moment I’m loving the minimalist pastel vibe of the Eye Spy Milk Bar blog  and Hello I’m Handmade  is really inspirational with great tips for small businesses! I am obsessed with Instagram, it has been my number one source of inspiration and the best small business marketing tool! I am also pretty proud of my man for recently launching his own online shop arcart.bigcartel.com featuring his original artwork and prints.

Can you tell us one or two of your fave local spots?

I consider myself a bit of a foodie (yes I take photos of my food) and I love discovering new places on the Peninsula, we’re so lucky to have such a diverse variety of café’s and restaurants on our doorstep!

Currently I’m obsessed with Store Fifteen on Main st Mornington, the no.4 green smoothie and smashed avo toast is amazing!!  I know they’re two of the most hipster/cliché foodie items of the year but they really are so yummy and I’m there with my man most Sundays when I’m not working! On my days off in summer I usually grab a coffee and bite to eat from either Mr.Curtus or Via Battisti in Mount Martha and spend the afternoon at the beach across the road.

BREAKFAST - The Winey Cow in Mornington
PIZZA - DOC for true Italian style pizza and incredible Italian produce AND The Pizza Wagon if I see them at markets/events!
GROCERIES - Tully’s in Mount Eliza but always end up spending so much more than I planned!
COFFEE – Commonfolk, Flock, or the Franklin Coffee caravan at markets or at the beach in summer
JAPANESE - Kazu on Main st Mornington is always a favourite with the girls, delicious food and it’s BYO!
SHOP – Evergreen clothing in Mornington and I have just discovered Greedilulu just off Main st, absolutely LOVE everything in this shop!!
WALK – Bushrangers bay – this coastal walk to the beach is amazing!
