LED light therapy has been amassing devotees among celebrities, skincare experts, influencers, and beauty editors for its ability to do everything from gently reducing acne to encouraging the skin to behave more youthfully.

LED stands for light emitting diode. The benefits are all a result of the light, which emits therapeutic wavelengths of light energy to energise the cell, stimulating the production of collagen, elastin and anti-antioxidants and improving blood and lymphatic circulation.

Often referred to as ‘the next big ingredient in skincare’, LED light therapy is a fundamental beauty treatment that enhances and maintains the results of everything else included in your skincare routine, from your products all the way through to in-clinic treatments.

Please note not all LED lights are created equal — the Cryomed is the most powerful and effective in the world, so there’s less treatment time. We believe everyone deserves great skin and have created a salon to help you achieve that.

And don’t forget to ask us about our wide range of skin treatment packages. These include the Glow-Getter PCA Skin Oxygenation Trio, the perfect treatment to combat the signs of a busy lifestyle. Hypnosis for weight loss — look no further

Gayle Dwyer has been successfully helping people lose weight using hypnotherapy and EFT tapping for 12 years. “Hypnosis harnesses the part of the brain that is responsible for your behaviours and emotions,” says Gayle.

Hypnotherapy and EFT tapping are relaxing, non-invasive techniques that can tap into your subconscious mind where your habits reside. If you want long-term success and a healthy mindset towards food and your well-being in general, Gayle’s programs are the way to go. Not only will you make fast change with hypnosis and EFT tapping, you will also be coached on mindfulness and mindset so you can transform any area of your life.

Karina, pictured, says: “For many years I had struggled with my weight. I’d be able to lose it but not keep it off. Finally I feel like I have found the answer in hypnotherapy. My whole mindset has changed and I no longer feel that food rules me, but that I am now in control of my health and my eating. It’s a wonderful feeling to not be constantly in a battle and thinking of food all the time. I can’t speak highly enough of Gayle and the whole process.”

Revolutionary vein treatment comes to Peninsula

Just the mention of ‘varicose vein treatment’ can conjure up disturbing thoughts of vein ‘stripping’, major surgery and extended hospital stays.  Thankfully, long gone are the days of painful surgery to remove unwanted and uncomfortable veins.  Dr Ganesha Param recently opened a state-of-the-art vein treatment facility in Frankston that champions the non-surgical removal of varicose and spider veins.

36808746_1741203262611469_8417578340390535168_n.png

“We find so many people are put off seeking help for varicose veins because they fear the ‘stripping’ treatments of yesteryear,” says Dr Gan. “The reality is that technology has evolved to a point that no major surgery or general anesthetics are required.  In fact, the outcomes of the new treatments are far superior to old surgery methods and patients are able to return to daily activities almost immediately.”

The Doctor Vein specialist clinic opened in August 2018 and has already treated hundreds of patients with non-surgical and non-invasive vein treatments.  With a range of treatment types available from laser technology to ultrasound guided injections, Dr Gan works with patients to create bespoke treatment plans. Dr Gan finds patients seek treatment for a number of reasons, from the medically motivated because veins are causing discomfort and pain to the cosmetic to improve the physical appearance of legs . . . and sometimes a combination of the two.

“Varicose and spider veins unfortunately don’t discriminate and can affect both men and women of all ages.  The great news is that treatment doesn’t need to result in lengthy recoveries and time off work or ongoing commitments.  We find winter is a popular time to undertake treatment so patients can be confident and comfortable with their legs when the warmer weather arrives.”

To discuss your treatment options and book an initial consultation please contact 9781 0646 or email [email protected]  No referral is required.

Winter nutrition to keep you well

It’s not news to us that as winter hits so does an influx of illnesses such as the common cold, flu and other viruses. Focusing on health-enhancing foods can provide you the best opportunity of staying healthy once the temperatures drop, so we’ve put together some helpful tips to help you remain well and nourished throughout the cooler months.

Concentrate on vitamins C, D and zinc
·      Zinc helps to fight off illnesses during winter, particularly the common cold. Eat plenty of spinach, beans, nuts, oysters, pumpkin seeds, seafood and beef.

·      Vitamin C is excellent at fighting against cold and flu.  Keep up your intake of fruits and vegetables such as kiwi, grapefruit, oranges, kale, swiss chard, parsnips, red cabbages, radishes, spinach, sweet potato, winter squash and tomatoes.

·      Our body naturally absorbs vitamin D in sunlight. However, this becomes compromised during winter. Try to consume foods such as eggs, oily fish, avocado, and dairy.

Local & Seasonal Produce

Not only is eating seasonal fruit and vegetable better for the environment, it is also better for your health. We are so fortunate to be living on the Mornington Peninsula with a plethora of farm gates offering locally, seasonally and sustainably grown fruit and vegetables.

Winter fruits: pears, apples, pomegranate, grapefruit, kiwis, oranges.

Winter veg: onions, garlic, shallots, scallions, squash, radishes, rhubarb, potatoes, peas, bok choy, kale, chard, spinach, carrots, parsnips.

Warming spices and hearty meals

There are plenty of reasons why spices and herbs as well as hearty meals such as casseroles, stews and soups have traditionally been used for centuries to keep us healthy during the cooler months. Include spices and herbs in your winter recipes because these act to warm your body, are anti-inflammatory and offer a wide range of antioxidants. Include turmeric, cinnamon, coriander, ginger, chilli, garlic, cumin, black pepper and cardamom.

When your family is complete

At Eramosa Vasectomy Clinic, you’re in safe hands. Dr Joshua Honig has 25 years of GP experience, with extensive skills in minor surgery and complex skin cancer removal. These surgical skills, in addition to specialised training in vasectomy, have allowed Dr Honig to perform hundreds of successful vasectomy procedures.

FOR KATE-01.jpg

If your family is complete, Dr Honig can discuss your options with you. If you decide that vasectomy is right for you, the initial consultation with Dr Honig will start with an examination and a discussion of the procedure. You will find Dr Honig is compassionate and patient and will answer any questions you may have about vasectomies. If you choose to go ahead, your 20-minute procedure will be scheduled for a later date, and you can rest easy because no preparation, such as shaving, is required. The ‘no scalpel’ method and an ‘open-ended’ technique is used to minimise pain and complications, and the use of local anaesthetic means you can drive yourself home afterwards. No stitches are needed so follow-up appointments are not usually required, which also means that recovery is generally quite quick, with most men having the procedure on a Friday and returning to work on Monday.
Dr Honig is passionate about working with families and welcomes partners to sit in for the consultation and procedure.

Donna and Maria and their team at Amicus Hair and Beauty are well known for creating contemporary looks and treating your hair with care. They are also keen supporters of viable hair salon practices. Donna explains: “We work closely with the group Sustainable Salons, which recycles up to 95 per cent of all salon resources. They provide customised bins for resource separation and pick it up from our salon every fortnight, which makes recycling easy. All proceeds are donated to OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest to distribute meals to people in need.”

Resources such as hair, plastics, paper, chemicals, metals, razors and tools are repurposed after being collected, which is great for reducing landfill. Donna continues: “We promote the use of cruelty-free and toxic-free product at Amicus Hair and Beauty and believe in being environmentally conscious in every way possible. We also stock Aveda, Kevin Murphy and La Biosthetique products.”

So if you’d like to look and feel sensational while knowing the planet is being looked after too, then head into Amicus Hair and Beauty this autumn and winter. The doctor’s back in town

Dr David Edis (MBBS, FRACS [Ortho], FAOA and AFRACMA) is an orthopaedic and spine surgeon who moved back to Melbourne more than a year ago to open his rooms in Frankston and Mornington. After studying at the University of Melbourne and training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Dr Edis pursued further training in spine surgery in New Zealand.

David Edis Pic.JPG

His passion for improving patient care included developing minimally invasive spinal surgery techniques for eight years in conjunction with surgeons in Australia and overseas. He is currently working with a pain management and multi-disciplinary team in Frankston to help solve complex pain issues. In addition to this, he spent five years developing allied health and pain management programs in regional Tasmania over his 10 years spent living in the beautiful island state.

With a special interest in the areas of adult spine surgery, hip and knee arthroplasty, knee arthroscopy and orthopaedic trauma, Dr Edis now also offers oblique lumbar fusion surgery, percutaneous screw fixation and deformity correction for adult scoliosis.

He believes in a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care and is passionate about working closely with primary carers, physiotherapists, pain specialists, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, myotherapists and nurses to achieve evidence-based contemporary care for his patients with spinal conditions.

Don’t sacrifice a healthy diet over winter

Screen Shot 2019-05-29 at 11.22.30 am.png

Winter is officially here. With the colder weather and comfort food, it is easy to fall out of routine and find yourself straying away from your typical flow. The days are shorter so there is a greater tendency to stay indoors, be less active, and eat heartier meals. Before you get too far into the slump of winter, adjust your approach and hit the reset button!

Be Fit Food recommends undertaking one or two weeks of the Be Rapid meal program every three to four months for a metabolism reset. This is not only the perfect approach for staying on track and starting each season as the healthiest version of yourself, but it also allows you to reset your metabolism after a period of indulgence such as Christmas or Easter.

Cycling Be Rapid with your regular diet for two weeks each season can help you to lose a couple of quick kilograms as well as increase insulin sensitivity and stabilise blood sugar levels. It can improve metabolic markers and cardiovascular risk factors such as your blood fat profile, including cholesterol levels.

Winter can also bring the increased risk of coughs, head colds and the flu. Eating nutritious foods can help to keep a strong immune system. Be Fit Food meals contain food from each of the five food groups and contain four to 12 vegetables in each serve. This provides you with antioxidants and essential micronutrients to help you to maintain optimal health throughout winter.

The cold weather can also make getting out of the house less appealing. Rather than getting takeaway or fast food delivery, have Be Fit Food delivered to your doorstep. You can use Be Fit Food meals for healthy convenience. Store the food in your freezer, and on the nights you want to avoid comfort eating or just need something easy, simply heat and enjoy a warm Be Fit Food meal.

Screen Shot 2019-04-29 at 1.44.27 pm.png

We all know that mums put everyone but themselves first, with diet, exercise and “you-time” often going out the window. At Be Fit Food, our priority is to improve health and wellness by providing healthy and convenient meals and support.

That’s why we’ve put a healthy twist on the traditional “breakfast in bed” for Mother’s Day with this recipe for delicious and healthy Chocolate Protein Pancakes!

BFF Choc Protein Pancakes

Serves 2 BFF Dietitian: Laura Ballantyne

Ingredients

Pancakes:

30g Be Fit Chocolate Protein Booster

40g rolled oats

1 large egg

20g Chobani 0.5% Plain Greek Yoghurt

50ml unsweetened almond milk

10g stevia

½ teaspoon baking powder

1½ teaspoons coconut oil

Topping:

½ cup blueberries

4 teaspoons Chobani 0.5% Plain Greek Yoghurt

Method

Place the oats in a food processor and pulse until it resembles a powdery consistency.

Add the protein powder, egg, yoghurt, almond milk, stevia, baking powder and 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to the oats in the food processor. Combine for approximately 30 seconds until smooth.

Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat. Use some of the leftover ½ teaspoon coconut oil to coat the pan. When oil is melted, spoon 50g of the mixture (this will make two pancakes per serve), or 25g of the mixture (this will make four pikelets per serve) into the pan. Cook each side for approximately 2 minutes, or until golden.

Repeat the last step until all pancakes are cooked.

To serve, place two pancakes or four pikelets on each plate. Top each stack with 2 teaspoons of yoghurt and ¼ cup blueberries.

Enjoy!!

Back to the future

Screen Shot 2019-04-29 at 1.29.08 pm.png

Not many local businesses can claim a long history, let alone in the same premises. But Frankston’s Peninsula Star Cycles can do just that, having been at 48 Playne St since 1946.

The business has undergone several changes since then, and recently went back to being fully independent. The store even had a makeover to celebrate the change.

“We wanted to focus on our brand and our history as Frankston’s oldest bicycle store,” said store manager John Billing. “We used a photo of the store from around the ‘60s as the inspiration for our new paint job and signage. Our painter Glen, from High Rollers Painting & Decorating, and signwriter Grant, from Scene D Signs, did an amazing job of transforming our vision into reality.”

Double the delight for TSIC By Kate Sears

The Sports Injury Clinic has been successfully helping the community with their health needs for 15 years with Pippa Hanson at the helm. From four team members to an impressive 64, it’s no wonder The Sports Injury Clinic went home with two awards after the Greater Frankston Business Awards on Thursday, February 21.

They were thrilled to receive the Best Health Professional Award. Four major awards with surprise categories closed the night, with Pippa being called up to the stage for a second time to receive the Best Work Place Culture Award.

“It was a surprise,” Pippa said. “It was fantastic that what we had conveyed in our application showed the type of workplace we run. My team thought it was fantastic to be recognised. They are amazing people and they work so well together regardless of their position. Everyone is treated equally here.”

Pippa said the process of applying for awards offered her team a good opportunity to assess where they’re at, what direction they’re heading in and what they need to continue pursuing.

“I always wanted to create a workplace that is a great place to be. You are at work a lot so I wanted to create a great work culture from day one. I wanted to provide a workplace with good vibes, a place where you like to turn up to every day.”

Anny’s Manufacturing Jewellers – A Family Business Wins!

Pic Kate Sears.JPG

What a month March was for Anny’s Manufacturing Jewellers. First we were notified that we had WON the Manufacturing category of the Frankston Business Awards, secondly the business celebrated 29 years of service to the Mornington Peninsula.

IMG_5128 (1).jpg

The year began with a major highlight when we officially launched our modern website, allowing our customers to select diamonds of any size or grade and then designing on the same website their own ring.

Harry Ozkoch the owner of Anny’s has his own personal satisfaction this year with celebrating 40 years of being a Master Jeweller. Harry has lived and breathed jewellery since he was 16. From his humble beginnings as a diamond setter, he still holds on to his values of treating all his clients as his own family and assists his clients with all their jewellery needs. This view to serve his clients as family is enforced to all the team at Anny’s.

Winning this award is just another demonstration of how committed Anny’s is to serve all the jewellery needs asked of them. Anny’s not only creates  brilliant custom-made jewellery but also sells premade jewellery and stocks a range of brands including Thomas Sabo, Dora Wedding Bands, Peter W Beck, Nikki Lissoni, Ikecho Pearls and Classique Swiss Watches. We invite all to see for themselves why Anny’s Manufacturing Jewellers have built such a strong name for ourselves on the Peninsula and why we are a worthy winner in the 2018 Greater Frankston Business Awards.

Fitness for all By Kate Sears

candice-thomason-crossfit-1010- feb-2019-37.jpg

CrossFit 1010 promotes the concept that CrossFit is for everyone — it’s not just a gym. “Fitness is defined as many things,” said owner Candice Thomason. “Fitness here encompasses a holistic view of a person’s well-being. We cater for our athletes’ individual needs, which we can do because our classes are smaller than traditional CrossFit gyms. Our guidance centres around awareness, mindset, nutrition, mobility, movement and community.

“I want to change the perception that CrossFit is just for elite athletes. There is a great need to bring this to the people who need it most. Fit people are already fit and we will continue to keep them fit, but how do we help the people who need it the most — people with Type 2 diabetes, injuries, mobility issues, older athletes? We have tried to create a space here that is not intimidating and invites anyone who wants to make changes and live a fitter life. CrossFit is scalable, which means we ensure everyone can partake in the workout, and we will always prioritise virtuosity and the safety of our athletes.

“Our culture here is to celebrate everyone’s success. We uplift those who get good results. We don’t expect people to come in and be the very best. We just want them to come in, and not be limited by what they think they can’t do. Come in and let us help you to see what you can do.  We appreciate those who work hard and do their best. We award equal status to those that have completed their first push-up to those that compete at the CrossFit Sanctionals.

How to enjoy a healthy Easter

Screen Shot 2019-03-30 at 12.54.08 pm.png

Most of us see Easter as a time to indulge in a long weekend of chocolate and hot cross buns. However, it is possible to still enjoy Easter without letting go of our healthy habits. Here are three ways to have a healthy and happy Easter:

  • Start each day with a healthy balanced breakfast. Make a nutritious low-carb breakfast with a lean source of protein and healthy fats. This will stabilise your blood sugar levels and promote satiety and appetite regulation.

  • Practise eating mindfully and in moderation. All foods are okay to enjoy in moderation so try not to adopt the mind frame of writing off the whole day just from having one Easter egg. Save your leftover Easter eggs as treats for other weekends!

  • Try our Hot Cross Bun Protein Balls! Swap it, don’t stop it. These are a great healthy treat option that will keep you on track with your weight loss goals.

Hot Cross Bun Protein Balls

Number of serves: 14, Serve weight: 30g

Ingredients

¾ cup almond meal

¾ cup rolled oats

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp nutmeg

½ tsp allspice

2 tbsp coconut oil

1 tsp natural vanilla essence

95g cooked apple (or tinned 100% apple pie filling)

60g Be Fit Food Vanilla Protein Booster

1/3 cup sultanas

Desiccated coconut, for coating

Method

  • In a food processor, combine all ingredients except the sultanas. Blend until the mixture is combined and smooth in consistency.

  • Fold through the sultanas.

  • Place desiccated coconut on a plate or clean bench top.

  • Using a small kitchen scale, weigh out approximately 30g of mixture for each protein ball.

  • Wet hands and roll each 30g of mixture into a ball. Roll the ball in desiccated coconut, coating it.

  • Place protein balls in the freezer for one hour and serve.

Note: Keep protein balls stored in freezer. They can be eaten straight from the freezer or place them in the fridge half an hour before eating to soften.
